Ministry Framework

Connect. Live. Serve.

We do not frivolously fill our calendars with events and our church with programs. We are intentional in what we allow to captivate our time and what we give our energy to. Because of this, UBC functions under a flexible framework of, “Connect, Live, Serve”. Connect: This is about connecting with God - think: Sunday morning worship service. Live: This is about living life with each other - think: community groups. Serve: This is about serving our community and serving the globe - think: mission trips and neighborhood outreach. Any program we have at UBC or event we put on, falls within one of these three categories.

Elders and Deacons

We believe that the healthiest and most biblical leadership structure of a church is elders and deacons (Acts 14:23; 16:4; 20:17; 21:18; Titus 1:5; James 5:14). The elders of the church are to lead, spiritually guide, and equip the church body for the work of ministry. The deacons are to serve and assist the elders in caring for the church body. The church body is to disciple and care for one another. This structure is like a traffic roundabout or a revolving door: Everyone has a part to play. The church cannot function healthily without these three components.

[Note: We interchangeably use the words pastor/elder as we view these as the same office of the church. We utilize the word “elder” because it is used the most in the Bible. We utilize the word “pastor” because this is most commonly understood.]
