Joshua Newton is the Pastor here at University Baptist Church. He has been married to his beautiful wife Jennifer since July of 2015 and looks forward to starting their family soon. He has been in ministry since 2012 and has served in California, Arizona, and is excited about serving in Boise, Idaho. His passion is to make disciples of

Christ that make disciples, and ultimately seeing the Treasure Valley grow through gospel ministry.

He has a strong conviction to lead the church to; connect with God, live in biblical community, and serve their neighbors.


Josh enjoys traveling, being outdoors, and playing board games. He loves to meet new people and help them take that next step in their faith.

Riley Evans connect leader

Riley Evans grew up in Southern California and moved to Boise in the fall of 2020. He graduated from California Baptist University that spring with a degree in Business Administration. He married his wife Lexi in the summer of 2020 after graduating high school and college together. He joined UBC when he moved to Boise in 2020 and quickly joined the Praise Team playing bass guitar. He felt called to join the leadership team and became the Connect leader in the Fall of 2021. Riley desires to see UBC's Sunday services demonstrate the Gospel through the singing, reading, and preaching of God's word while connecting the body of Christ together in Gospel rooted fellowship.  Riley is eager to serve his church and follow the call that God has placed on his life. Riley currently works as an insurance agent and service representative at the Chrysalis Insurance Agency and coaches volleyball at Rise Volleyball Academy.


Riley loves to play volleyball, play and sing music, hike and walk with his wife Lexi and dog Annie, spend time with family and friends, and participate in any manner of outdoor adventures.

Phillip Grant serves as the Serve leader here at UBC. He hails from West Texas, and moved to Idaho in 2011 to reach college students at Boise State, where he served in full-time ministry for seven years. His desire is to equip the church to make the name of Jesus known among those who have never heard.


Phillip now works for a software company in the Treasure Valley. His hobbies include spending time with his beautiful daughter Adalynn, hiking, playing sports, spending time with international students, making delicious Tex-Mex,  and teaching.

Jason Cicero


Jason Cicero has been married for 27+ years to his wife Erica and father to three girls.  His heart is to serve where the Lord would lead him, which has led to holding many different positions at UBC over the past 25 years.  He currently serves as the Interim Administrative Leader working to enable volunteer members and teams as they seek to use their gifts and talents within the church while incorporating resource, safety, maintenance, and fiscal management. Jason has also held various leadership and engineering positions at Micron Technology where he currently is a Software Engineering Architect. 


His ultimate desire for the Administrative area of the church is for it to be a living example of biblical stewardship which seeks to utilize the resources that have been entrusted by God to the local UBC body to accomplish His redeeming work through the gospel message.
